Friends, I would love your help in prayer. With the political situation re:immigration as it is currently, my husband and I have decided it would be best to get his citizenship application submitted sooner rather than later. He has permanent legal residency status here already and has wanted to become a citizen "eventually, one day," but it hasn't been a top priority because it's expensive and we just don't have the money. (We've chosen to use our limited funds for other things, like our trip to his country to visit family).
Now my family is really worried (probably needlessly so to some extent) and wants him to apply for citizenship as soon as possible. My aunt has generously offered to pay for everything, as a gift. (This is her nature and she would never hold it against us -she's tickled pink at the idea that she can help). But G feels reluctant about accepting. My aunt has already put the check in the mail and he says he wants to do it without a lawyer and send part of the money back to her. She sent extra money on purpose for a lawyer so we could have a top class experience, because ahe wants the best for us. I worry if we send money back it would really hurt her. I think my husband's pride is in the way and I wish he could accept her generosity with humility and grace. I just want to pray for clarity for us both on how to deal with this.

Adrianne, when my wife became a citizen we filled out everything by ourselves and it wasn't hard at all. If G is been married to you for three years already and has a clean record then you shouldn't need a lawyer, a smart woman like you should be able to fill out everything. God bless you and G, and you can ask me anything as I already went through this stuff with my wife becoming a citizen.

Praying for you and G. Leandro having been through this & able to help guide if needed, is another example of God 'introducing' us through our marriages so we can support each other in whatever we go through in this life. God is so GOOD!!

What a huge blessing! I feel like you could tell G that you will do this however he prefers and feels is right, but to realize that this is a blessing from God too, and He is using your Aunt to give that blessing. But ultimately you respect his feelings and will do this how he sees best. Remember Adrienne that God has a plan for this and whether it is with or without the lawyer, He will make sure it happens. Give over the stress of it to God
