Hi all! Wanted to give an update....thanks for holding us accountable Sharon!
I've been to 2 sessions of couples counseling in the last 2 weeks. Dana dominated both sessions full of anger at me. A big issue in our communication is his anger, which just shuts me down...always has. Dana doesnt see his anger and says thats just how he is. The counselor pointed out to Dana that it doesn't matter if he doesn't think he's acting angry in any particular moment....it's the perception that his wife and daughter see his anger that counts. He suggested that Dana tone down. Dana is 6'2, has a deep voice, uses a lot of hand motions when talking....the counselor says this comes across too powerful.
Meanwhile, Dana is also seeing a personal trauma therapist.....maybe has had 6 sessions.
I've been trying to finish up the remodel that i started when Dana left 21months ago. Our basement flooded in April 2015,so ive been working from the ground floor up. It's been such good therapy for me while being separated.
Our 18th wedding anniversary was last Sunday. Dana came by and wanted to go to lunch, which we did. Then he spent the afternoon at the house helping me with some chores. I gave him a card and 2 bottles of wine....i found labels that had a 1 and 8 as part of the name. He felt bad because he didn't get me anything..but i told him that just spending time with him was enough. Its been nice to reestablish our friendship.
I still dont see him ready to come home anytime soon. Please pray that he can forgive me for my part of our marriage breakdown....and also that he forgives and accepts my family back when the time is right. His anger extends to them as well.
Also, pray for our married daughter, who is struggling with some depression. Its affecting her marriage and my grand-girls. She's having a hard time accepting god's grace for her teenage sins. And she also isn't sure she believes in Satan.
